OUR STORY
Founder Bailey Stillman was born and raised on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Growing up surrounded by nature, he spent countless hours exploring the forest and the ocean with friends and family. Bailey's love of boats started as a young child on THE DOTTY KAY, his grandparent's cabin cruiser they kept moored on Somes Sound. He has spent his whole life learning the ins and outs of boat repair and maintenance.
After graduating high school at MDIHS he earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration, then went onto obtain his 100-ton USCG Captain’s License and PADI Scuba Certification. At 18, Bailey began working as a private captain for specialty craft during the summers, while spending winters working at local boatyards. The combination of time on the water and off-season maintenance gave him a well-rounded perspective on how boats are to be properly used and cared for.
Most importantly, Bailey has gained a special appreciation for the rich history of wooden boats, and the deep emotional connection they hold for their owners. In 2023 Bailey founded Stillman Marine in order to carry on a longstanding tradition of wooden boat repair and preservation. His heart in all the work he does is to honor the legacy of one-of-a-kind wooden vessels, and the families they belong to.
